Ice Dogs vs Thunder Weekend Preview

Juno Tsalis

The Sydney Ice Dogs are set to face the Thunder this weekend in Perth in back-to-back games. The games will mark the first two of four meetings the teams will have this season.

The Thunder currently sit in 6th on the ladder with four points while the Ice Dogs sit in third on nine points.

After a dominating 5-1 derby win against the Bears on Saturday followed by a 4-3 shootout loss on Sunday to the Northstars, the Ice Dogs will be looking to keep on top of the standings and take home all six points on offer.

Perth took home their second win of the season last Sunday defeating the Mustangs 4-3 after falling to the same Melbourne team 2-6 the night before.

The last time the two teams met, Sydney took an impressive 5-3 win in a physical and fast paced game at Macquarie Ice Rink.

New goaltender Curtis Skip has been standing tall for the Ice Dogs, allowing only four goals over two games on 70 shots and has a GAA of 2.00 and SV% of 0.943.

Grant Toulmin currently has the most assists by any player in the league and ties second in the league in points recorded, with 10. The forward has also registered 4 points in the last two games (2 goals, 2 assists) he has played.

Geordie Wudrick ties third in the league in points and second in goals, with four. The new Ice Dogs player also recorded four points (1 goal, 3 assists) last weekend against the Bears and Northstars.

After the two games this weekend, the Ice Dogs will play the Thunder on the following dates: 24 June, July 28. The next time the Ice Dogs play at home will be when they take on the Mustangs on Sunday the 10th of June.
