CAMERON TODD JOINS DOGS
Monday, February 12, 2018

The Sydney Ice Dogs are proud to announce the signing of Australian forward Cameron Todd for the 2018 AIHL season. Todd was a key member of the Australian National Men’s team who won a silver medal at the 2017 IIHF Word Championships (DIV 2A) in Romania.

At just 23 years of age, he’s already appeared in 25 games for the national team, scoring 37 points (15 goals, 22 assists). Todd also brings a wealth of the AIHL experience to the Ice Dogs, having appeared in 91 AIHL games with the Sydney Bears.

Growing up and playing his junior hockey in Sydney, Todd says he feels right at home with his new AIHL club.

“The major thing for me is the familiarity” said Todd.

“As core Ice Dogs players have returned to the club, like the Stephenson’s, these are guys I grew up being coached by and looked up to. Getting to play with these guys feels like I’m going back to my roots.”

Todd is currently playing in the US for the University of Jamestown in North Dakota. The team plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) competition and have won 18 of 30 games this season.

“The season didn’t start the way we wanted after the success we had last year” said Todd,

“But after a good Christmas break, we’ve come back energised and haven’t lost yet in 2018, riding a nine-game win streak. We’re currently ranked 11th nationally and are on track for a national tournament appearance.”

Once his commitments in the US have wrapped up, Todd is looking forward to a home coming with the Ice Dogs and successful 2018 AIHL campaign.

“Overall I’m looking forward to enjoying my hockey on a personal level. For the team, I’m looking forward being part of the culture at the Ice Dogs and winning a Goodall cup!”

New head coach Andrew Petrie is excited about adding a player with Todd’s pedigree to the Ice Dogs roster.

“Cameron is a guy I’ve admired as an opposition coach over recent seasons for his contribution as a genuine 200-foot player (Plays well offensively and defensively). He is a big body with excellent skating who competes hard every shift and has a refuse-to-lose approach to individual battles”

Coach Petrie is confident Todd can step into his new surroundings and be an impact player for this Ice Dogs this season.

“On top of his elite compete-level attitude, he’s a point-per-game contributor who is already popular with many of the guys he will be battling for a spot on the 2018 roster”

“I’m confident the Ice Dogs can provide an AIHL environment, which will give him (Todd) every opportunity to have a stand-out AIHL season.”
