Tuesday, July 10, 2018 - Submitted by Juno Tsalis

The Sydney Ice Dogs took home an hard fought 4-0 win against the Adelaide Adrenaline on Sunday night.

From the beginning the Ice Dogs maintained possession of the puck and worked cohesively to dominate the game. With some solid chances from both sides, Ice Dog Jonatan Ruth opened up scoring at Macquarie Ice Rink with a powerplay goal with 3:20 left on the clock. The goal was assisted by Tomas Manco and Jonatan Ruth and gave the home team the lead at the end of the first.

Lee Turner scored the only goal in the second, less than two minutes in, assisted by David Dunwoodie. Forward Lachlan Shumak was sent off with a 20 minute game misconduct and 5 minute major for kicking halfway through the period sending the Ice Dogs to the penalty kill, which they dominated and successfully killed.

Geordie Wudrick scored both goals in the final 20 minutes, the first coming at 14:03 then an empty net goal with 1:25 remaining. Both of Wudrick’s goals were assisted by Bryan Kolodziejczyk and Cameron Todd.

Ice Dog Billy Cliff was also ejected from the game, at 11:58, with a 25 minute match penalty and two minute roughing minor. The penalties coincided with the Adrenaline’s Caleb Apperson who was given a 20 minute game misconduct and a five minute major for fighting.

Goaltender Curtis Skip stood tall the entire game, blocking all 22 shots. The shutout was not only his first of the season but his first in the AIHL since joining in April.

The Ice Dogs will play their Sydney rivals, the Bears on Friday night and then they are set to host the Adelaide Adrenaline at home again next Saturday.
