The Sydney Ice Dogs will have over 1,200 AIHL games of experience back in the lineup this season. After making comebacks last season in an effort to revive the Sydney club, Captain Scott Stephenson, David Dunwoodie, Tomas Manco, Andrew White and Todd Stephenson are back for another tour of duty. The crew also bring 154 National Men’s Team games combined in which Defenceman Andrew White holds the most caps at 43. White is entering his 13th season in the AIHL building on 239 plus games where he has registered 56 goals, 89 assists for 145 points and 1222 penalty minutes (does not include 2002-2004 stats). White will be joined by Tomas Manco to help steady the blue line. Manco has skated in 260 career AIHL games over 11 seasons. The stay at home Defenceman has netted 74 points and 469 penalty minutes over his career and was part of the 2013 Goodall Cup Championship. If steadying the blue line isn’t enough, the Ice Dogs can also turn to veterans David Dunwoodie and Todd Stephenson, who are consistent scorers and played a critical role in the 2013 championship season playing alongside import Simon Barg. David Dunwoodie is the franchise leading point scorer with 237 points. Dunwoodie is entering 14th season in the AIHL. Dunwoodie has over 300 AIHL games of experience and is a proven scorer when playing for the Dogs, reaching a career high 20 goals and 53 points in 2014 winning local player of the year. Todd Stephenson has skated in 246 regular season games over 11 seasons, all of which have been with the Ice Dogs. The forward has registered 59 goals, 112 assists for 171 points, placing 3rd in the franchise all time points list. He has made six post season appearances and played a major role in helping the Dogs win the 2013 championship notching a hat-trick in the final. Captain Scott Stephenson has registered 85 goals and 108 assists for 193 points over 248 AIHL career games – placing him 2nd on the franchises all time points list. The two way forward will most likely play a more defensive role this upcoming season as the Ice Dogs strive towards the Goodall Cup. “We have a good mix this season of youth and experience” says coach Chris Blagg. “As we hold all players accountable I expect them to challenge each other and push the team to a whole new level”. The season begins on the 22nd of April with a massive Sydney Derby at the Macquarie ice rink against the Sydney Bears. |
