The Sydney Ice Dogs took a hard fought 5-0 win against the Adelaide Adrenaline on Saturday night, with youngsters Kale Costa and Aiden Sillato registering their first AIHL goals and goaltender Curtis Skip recording his second shutout of the season. The first period remained scoreless despite some good chances from either sides and a strong effort from both goaltenders. Geordie Wudrick opened up the scoring in the second period on the powerplay, just under six minutes in, assisted by Bryan Kolodziejczyk and Jonatan Ruth. 16 year old Kale Costa then scored his first AIHL goal with just under 11 minutes remaining in the period, after playing only three games with the Ice Dogs this season. On the goal Costa had to say “It was a great feeling. Ellesse Carini took a nice shot from the blue line and I just got the rebound”. Costa would then go on to assist Aiden Sillato’s first AIHL goal less than a minute later. “It was a good experience, [a] good feeling” said 18 year old Sillato on his first goal. “Ellesse [Carini] passed the puck to me... and I just tried to put it in the net”. With the absence of usual players including Grant Toulmin, Tomas Manco, Scott Stephenson and Billy Cliff, the younger members of the team were given the opportunity to play in a more prominent role. 19 year old Ellesse Carini also had a successful night, assisting both Costa’s and Sillato’s goals. Sillato’s goal gave the Ice Dogs a 3-0 lead heading into the final period. Geordie Wudrick scored his second of the night in the final 20 minutes followed by Bryan Kolodziejczyk with a minute and 14 seconds remaining to give the Ice Dogs the 5-0 win against the Adelaide Adrenaline. Goaltender Curtis Skip stood tall the entire game, blocking all 20 shots he faced. The shutout was his second of the season, his first coming on the 8th of July against the Adelaide Adrenaline. The Ice Dogs are set to travel to Melbourne this weekend to face the Mustangs and Ice. The next time the team plays at home will be when they host the Perth Thunder on the 28th of July.
