Sydney Ice Dogs announce withdrawal from 2025 AIHL season

The Sydney Ice Dogs have announced they will not be competing in the 2025 AIHL season due to the scheduled renovation at Macquarie Ice Rink.

The club released a full statement via their social media channels

"As promised, we have an update regarding the 2025 AIHL season. Unfortunately, the Sydney Ice Dogs will not be participating in the 2025 AIHL season due to the lack of available ice time.

We want to be clear that this was not our intention and we are disappointed to have to announce this. We would like to commend IHNSW, the AIHL, other teams and the various rink owners involved in trying to avoid this outcome and support ice hockey in Sydney.

We would also like to acknowledge the team at Macquarie Ice Rink who have had to make an incredibly difficult decision that affects not only us but other teams and ice sports as well. We cannot wait to see the new and improved Macquarie Ice Rink and look forward to the first puck being dropped in front of a sold-out crowd when we can. Macquarie Ice Rink has been our home rink for a number of years now and we have nothing but respect and admiration for the dedicated team who work there.

This isn't an update many of you would like to read but rest assured we have explored every possible avenue to avoid this situation. We will be back in 2026, more hungry and more committed than ever before to bring the Goodall Cup back to Sydney.

The AIHL will make a full statement on the 2025 AIHL season after the Board of Directors meets with the Team Governors again this weekend.
