What a game it was Saturday night in Newcastle. The Ice Dogs came back from a two goal deficit, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 win over Newcastle.
The Northstars scored the only goal in the first period, with 6:13 remaining when Joseph Harcharik buried the puck on the power play. The Ice Dogs fought hard to create good chances, getting the puck to the net and managing to kill three of the four penalties they faced during the period.
Sydney entered the second period trailing 1-0 with 5 shots on goal. Steven Kuhn furthered the Northstars lead with 11:33 left on the clock, but the Ice Dogs were quick to respond when Strat Allen scored 33 seconds later. Allen’s 6th goal of the season was assisted by Grant Toulmin and Stephen Johnston. After multiple chances, Import Stephen Johnston tied the game with 5:18 remaining on the clock. Johnston’s goal was assisted by Grant Toulmin and Ilman Lee.
After answering back with two goals in the second, the Dogs hit the ice for the final period. Sydney took the lead with just under nine minutes played in the third with goal from Kane Spence. The third and final goal was assisted by David Dunwoodie and Lachlan Shumak.
Damien Ketlo stood tall once again, making 33 saves to help lead the Dogs to their win in the final away game of the 2017 AIHL season. The Dogs will face the Mustangs at home tonight with puck drop at 5pm local time to finish out the 2017 AIHL season.
