Ice Dogs sign Canadian Forward Kyle Hunter

The Sydney Ice Dogs are proud to announce the addition of Import Canadian forward Kyle Hunter to their Import Roster.  Hailing from Ontario, Hunter is a tenacious defensive minded forward who grew up playing AAA hockey in Ontario and honed his craft through St. Andrews College, a high-performance Canadian Hockey Prep School, winning two National Championships with the team.

After High School Hockey, Hunter received an offer to play NCAA Division 3 College Hockey at Middlebury College but opted to played Junior 'A' in 2016/2017 for the Pickering Panthers of the OJHL, where he put up 11 points over 41 games in the season.  In his final year of Junior, he split time between the London Nationals of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League and Lambeth Lancers of the Provincial Junior Hockey League where he notched 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists) in 30 games.

After taking some time off from the game, Hunter travelled to Australia and battled for a spot at tryouts earlier this year.

“Kyle has been a bit like a diamond in the rough, he was in Sydney for the tryouts as his partner is studying here and from the moment he hit the ice it was like an injection shot of adrenaline and the standard of the tryouts were lifted. Kyle whilst still young has skill, drive and passion for hockey and don’t let his size throw you off he has some fierce determination every time he is on the ice” explains coach Kvisle.

“After taking some time off from the game, it feels so good to be back playing hockey. After coming to tryouts and meeting with Chiz [coach Kvisle] and the team, I knew the Ice Dogs were a great fit, and a team that is looking to make a statement this year. After the first few weeks of training, it’s clear I made the right choice. We’ve got a great group of guys in the room, and a dedicated coaching staff and management that is really giving us every opportunity to succeed. I can’t wait to get the season underway and do everything I can to help bring a championship to Sydney and the Ice Dogs” said Hunter.

Who is looking forward to our Home Opening Weekend April 15th and 16th.  Be sure to grab your tickets from www.icedogsshop.com.au
